In a rare display of cooperation between the parents of two of the NBA’s greatest stars, a police spokesman said Friday that Kobe Bryant and his father are in a medically induced coma after being found by his family’s medical team late Wednesday in a house in Rancho Mirage, California.
The statement did not say whether Bryant was in serious condition.
In a statement Friday, the spokesman said Kobe Bryant “suffered a seizure that was triggered by an inhaler, which led to his coma.”
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has not yet released the cause of Bryant’s death.
He was 51.
The statement did say that the Lakers superstar suffered a seizure, which was triggered when an inhalers inhaler failed to stop his breathing.
The Lakers are holding an open house Thursday for Bryant’s family.
Bryant, who is scheduled to play for the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center on Friday, has played for the Lakers since 2005 and has averaged 25.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
