RTÉ journalist RTE’s Róisín O’Brien has described how her son and colleague, Brendan Keogh, were told their 11-year-old son Brendan had died in a car crash.
RTÉ News reports that Brendan and his wife had been told his body had been found in a field near his home in Kildare.
Ms O’Brien said she was not allowed to speak to her son at the time because she feared that he was being taken away for burial.
RTL’s Kevin Fenton spoke to her in the car, and she said her son was not aware he had died until after it had happened.
Ms Keogh’s father said he had not spoken to his son for several weeks, as his family had feared he had passed away.
Ms Fenton said Brendan and her husband had received death threats.
She said the family was told Brendan had not been drinking and he had only been in school a few weeks.
The family had to move to a new house and have to live with his sister’s parents and a cousin.
The RTÉ newsroom and its news department have been contacted for comment.
